The Community Rescue Service (CRS) is a volunteer search and rescue charity operating across Northern Ireland. They provide search and rescue services as a first point of contact for the PSNI to search for high-risk, vulnerable, missing members of our communities. They commonly search for dementia patients, children, people in crisis, those contemplating suicide or those who have already suicided.
Their services, however are not restricted to purely lowland search and rescue. The CRS provides a number of additional public services including:water search and rescue, suicide prevention, public education, crisis intervention and community safety among others. The CRS operates strategically across Northern Ireland with 5 Districts and 12 Units covering all lowland and water areas. Each unit is managed by their own volunteers from within their local communities with responsibilities such as volunteer recruitment, fundraising, training needs analysis and public education. Volunteers come from all walks of life, regardless of class, ethnicity, culture or political opinion. Differences are set aside in the pursuit of the highest possible charitable purpose: the saving of lives.
As a volunteer organisation they have volunteers for their (i) Operational Teams i.e. boots on the ground searching, on call 24/7, 365 (ii) Support Teams i.e. assisting with fundraising, for example, collecting in public areas with a collection bucket. All of our highly trained Operational members are also required to assist with fundraising. Currently, they have 280 volunteers throughout Northern Ireland with the one aim when they are called…. Return the loved ones to their families.’ For more information on the Community Rescue Service click here.
Richard Fry, Managing Director of Coleman’s Garden Centre, commented; “We are delighted to support the Community Rescue Service in association with Antrim Lions as they celebrate their 51st Charter night with this fundraising event . Many of you many have seen earlier this year the great work the CRS undertake in BBC NI’s documentary The Search : Finding Northern Ireland’s Missing at the start of this year. The CRS is not publicly funded and is manned solely by volunteers and rely 100% on fundraising to continue their life saving work. Everyone in the garden centre team is looking forward with great anticipation to finding out more about the work they undertake. We would encourage all our customers to take the opportunity to join us for this event by purchasing tickets that can be obtained by contacting us here at the garden centre. or book a table online”
