It was all hands on deck as some of the staff of Coleman’s Garden Centre joined up with our great friend Sister Maryjo Corcoran and the parishioners of Sacred Heart Parish, Ballyclare on Saturday 27th October to help landscape the grounds of this beautiful, local church.

We were blessed- excuse the pun but thanks Sister Maryjo – with lovely, sunny and dry weather and were welcomed at 10.00am with hot tea, coffee and scrumptious scones.

It was great to see so many volunteers from the parish turn up with ages ranging from 7 to 70.

Work soon got underway, with most of the morning taken up with clearing leaves and weeding the existing flower beds. It was absolutely amazing how much work we got through as a united and dedicated team. The children kept us in craic with stories about school and Halloween and we all enjoyed the warm sun on our backs.

We were treated with Sister Maryjo’s homemade, nutritious lentil soup at lunchtime and we forged many new friendships over the lunch break.

Brian planted some beautiful new shrubs from Coleman’s Garden Centre, in the parochial house garden and the front flower beds and soon it was time to cover all of the beds with fine, ornate bark.

With so much help and enthusiasm we had the project completed by 3.00pm and the flower beds looked fantastic.

We were all in agreement, when you work as a team for a good, common purpose, it is amazing how much work gets done.

A huge big thank you to all of the staff at Coleman’s Garden Centre who gave up their time and the parishioners of Sacred Heart Parish for all of their hard work and commitment on the day.
