Hot on the heels of World Superbike Champion Jonathan Rea paying us a visit here at Coleman’s Garden Centre  it was another sporting legend who popped in to check out our garden centre, cafe and restaurant.

Willie John McBride, MBE , former rugby Union superstar who played for Ireland 63 times and also played for The British and Irish Lions who he toured with on five occasions was on the lookout for some plants.

Willie John captained the most successful Lions side ever in South Africa in 1974 with the Lions winning the controversial series 3-0 with one match drawn.

On this occasion Willie John, a regular visitor to Coleman’s Garden Centre was visiting to purchase some Marigolds that keeps greenfly away from tomato plants .

We were delighted to see Willie John again and  Richard Fry, Managing Director, Coleman’s Garden Centre was thankful that there were no calls of ’99’ to be heard from Willie John on this occasion !
